More than 641 million parcels were delivered across the country during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, with a daily average delivery volume increasing by 82.1 percent compared with last year, the State Post Bureau of China said on Sunday.

It said a total of 1.08 billion parcels were collected, with a daily average collection volume increasing by 145.2 percent compared to last year during the holiday that lasted from Feb 10 to Saturday.

The growth trend in the volume of parcels has demonstrated China's smooth logistics system, even during the holiday. It also reflects the vitality of Chinese consumption, according to the bureau.

Gifts sent to hometowns carry the longing of the senders, while the holiday goods sent from hometowns bear the thoughts and blessings of family and friends. Mutual sending of holiday goods has become a new way for people to celebrate the Spring Festival.

This year's Spring Festival travel rush season began on Jan 26. Data shows that from Jan 26 to Saturday, the parcel delivery sector has collected 5.66 billion parcels, up 30.8 percent compared to last year. Meanwhile, the industry delivered 5.99 billion parcels, a year-on-year increase of 21 percent.

"I received parcels almost every day during the holiday at my parent's home. Most items can be delivered to my doorstep the next day since I placed the order," said a Beijing resident surnamed Zhang, who returned to Qingdao of Shandong province during the holiday.

He bought holiday snacks, gifts for his parents, toys, and daily commodities for the child.
